Govt Warms up to EAMCET (Changes in Test Pattern)

Jun 02, 2002: The State Government is giving a serious thought to effecting changes in the pattern of EAMCET as well as giving weightage to Intermediate examination marks while finalising the ranks.

A debate will be initiated across the State to gauge the opinion of academics, students and parents soon even as the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is said to have asked officials to explore the possibilities of effecting the changes. But if the plans do take shape, the changes will come into effect in 2004 only.

State Reaps Rich Harvest in IIT-JEE

Jun 03, 2002: The State reaped a rich harvest yet again in the Indian Institute of Technology – Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE) bagging nearly 250 ranks. Below 3000 ranks, students of Ramaiah IIT coaching institute and Narayana Coaching Centres fared very well bagging 165 ranks in between them while 54 students of Nalanda educational institutions too emerged successful.

Ramaiah institute continued its excellent performance with 91 out of the 125 students making into the IITs this year.

98.22% Candidates Qualify in ICET

Jun 07, 2002: An impressive 98.22% of the candidates qualified in the Integrated Common Entrance Test (ICET), held for admission to MBA and MCA courses. The performance of girl students was slightly better at 98.40%, against 98.15% for boys.

Anche Asita, B.Tech (Computer Science) student from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kukatpally, bagged the first rank scoring 186 marks while the second rank went to VS Venkataraman, a B.E in Marine Engineering, who scored 184 marks.

Court Stays B.Ed Notification

Jun 13, 2002: Justice J Chalameswar of the AP High Court on Thursday stayed the operation of the notification issued by the Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha calling for applications for the entrance test for B.Ed course.

The interim order was passed in a writ petition filed by K Devadas, who complained that applications were called for 2001-2002 and results were not announced but new applications for 2002-2003 were called for.

PCC Chief Seeks Fresh EdCET

Jun 18, 2002: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president M Satyanarayana Rao, on Thursday, demanded the government to immediately rectify all the mistakes in the EdCET exam and conduct a fresh entrance examination.

In a press release, Mr Rao observed that the Chief Minister’s instructions to submit a report within 10 days over the EdCET chaos would be of no use to the students and only add to their woes.

Study Hours Increased in Govt Schools

Jun 18, 2002: Study hours for students in all government schools, including the aided ones, have been increased from this academic year.

The extra 40 minutes a day will be utilised to introduce the students to subjects other than the usual health, physical and environmental education, computer training, art, music, dance, sports, elocution and essay writing.

Delay in appointment of OU V-C resented

Jun 22, 2002: Hyderabad: Speakers at a seminar organised by the Forum for Social Justice here on Friday demanded immediate appointment of a vice-chancellor for Osmania University for which not even a search committee had so far been formed.

Raising several issues dogging the university, they said if there was a demand from some sections that this time the V-C should be from a weaker section, there was nothing wrong in it.

Entrance exam results announced

Jun 27, 2002: Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad has announced the results of the entrance examinations held for various postgraduate and research courses. According to a press release, the results are displayed at Golden Threshold, Nampally Station Road and at the University campus at Gachibowli. The results can also be accessed on the Internet at www.uohyd.ernet.in. The successful candidates are also being informed through post.

Engineering admissions commence

Jun 30, 2002: Hyderabad: Admissions to engineering courses began on Saturday with the Minister for Technical Education M Damodar Reddy formally inaugurating the elaborate counselling programme at Sankethika Vidya Bhavan here.

The Minister monitored the online allotment of the first seat to one Mohan from Kakinada at the Visakhapatnam counselling Centre.

Later at a press conference, the Minister announced that classes would begin in the first week of September, almost one month earlier this year.

Private Colleges Plan Stir in Karnataka

Jun 30, 2002: Aided and unaided private educational institutions will be closed indefinitely from August 19. The Karnataka State Private Education Management and Employees ‘ Coordination Action Committee took the decision in protest against the `apathetic attitude’ of the State Government towards these institutions. Basavaraj Horatti, MLC and president of the committee, presided over the meeting.

Mr Horatti told newsmen later that the decision would not be changed unless the Government called the representatives of the committee for a meeting and met their demands.
