Here we are not talking of ordinary girls, bright one’s who have earned plaudits and most importantly, come from humble backgrounds with a brilliant academic track record and zeal to achieve their goals. All of these has brought them on to one stage. Shall we call them seven wonders of Andhra Pradesh….
Seven of them pursuing their post graduation courses from the state did themselves proud by winning the coveted project Saraswathischolarships offered by ‘Fair & Lovely’Foundation. a creative initiative from the reputed Hindustan Lever Limited. This laudable initiative is to help womenpursue PG courses.

Confluence of culture & glory at homeMar 08, 2005: It was a day to chill out & remember for a galaxy of foreign students during ‘At Home’ festival in the Osmania University campus.Drums beat a lot to let out an African cry, a crazy one that sounded like a prayer to the Rain God to show mercy and shower buckets of water to our parched lands. Allied with this, traditional Somalian songs and dance roll were in full cry to the Rain God to do his task and much faster.
A day of African lingo, Afghan sighs, Ugandan hoots, Iranian jokes.., the list were endless as global barriers melted and mixed to throw up delicious international flavours during the feast of fun rolled at the festival.
Noted guests like OU Vice Chancellor Mohd. Suleiman Siddiqui, senior academicians & several international students were present during the show. It was in a way to sight a canopy of funky hairstyles and rich costumes. The students are pursuing various courses in different colleges.
Before the show, they all gathered at the VC's house for a get-together and dinner just before the examination fever takes over. At the same meet, Prof. Siddiqui said it was an honour for OU to become home for students from such diverse regions of the world. He also said that the city’s culture is such that it embraces everyone into its fold. As such make an effort here to learn the languages”.
The event is a regular, Osmania University & its affiliated colleges have played gracious host to students from about 41 countries like Kenya, Uganda, Somalia, Iran, Afghanistan, etc.
Focused Theme and all that …..Mar 14, 2005: University of Hyderabad (Central University) was host to an interesting two-day workshop on 'Managing Communications: Issues & challenges', conducted by the Communication Discipline of University of Hyderabad.
A sensible theme and one which epitomizes of media in today’s hitech college environment. It is said that Media stands as the epitome of this power in today's world & as such it is said that media sets the agenda for the audience or does the audience choice set an agenda for the media……
Media students are exposed to diversified fields of activity in Media & Mass Communication, the same of which has grown by leap and bound and has leapt to a more refined stage. The same left many of the students in the dark about the issues and challenges in this field. But the Workshop has cleared the doubts.
Social responsibility….
Bruce Gonsalves of IMRB International gave a perfect insight of various aspects of media research. The Chief Producer-ETV network, P.K.Manvi, chaired the Film and TV session.
Raji Iyer of Nisarga Public Relations elaborated on the rich glamorous world of Advertising and Public Relations. Sunil of Trikal Advertising explained in depth the growing popularity and prospects of viral advertising (advertisements on the Internet). The speeches and practical exposure to products made the students aware of the social responsibility of the media.
The social sector session had people representing organisations like the Byrraju Foundation, COVA, Azim Premji Foundation, OXFAM (Oxford Committee for Famine And Relief) and APSACS (Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society). The common viewpoint all the social organizations were that the social sector was not a platform to make money, but instead was the right place to fulfill one's societal obligations.
Print media Panelists for the print media session began by observing that it was being held only after the session on new media. Was it a pointer to the waning popularity of the print media?
Rajeev Balakrishnan (Trina) , Uday Chava (Microsoft) and Ajay Chandra (Globe Arena) spoke glowingly about new media. K. Nageswara Rao, Editor of 'Analysis' stressed that the print media still possessed its own charm & had a great future if it turn its disadvantage into an advantage vis-a-vis the time factor. Usha Raman, freelancer, and SA Jaffrey of Rediff.com agreed with his views.
Thus, ended a useful workshop, doubts were cleared and the future revealed. The future was challenging and definitely belonged to a combo of online media powered by internet-television and the ubiquitous print media.
After all, who can forget the visual scene of a relaxed retired Indian gentleman having a cuppa kapi in the early hours of a fresh day with the fresh scent of a newspaper… Certainly the future looks bright with this visual scene. Don’t you think so?
