B.Stat. (Hons.), B. Math. (Hons.), M.Stat., M.Math., M.S. (QE), M.Tech. (QROR), Other Courses and Fellowships.
Applications are invited for the following programmes from the candidates having qualifications as shown against each programme. Stipend as mentioned against each programme will be available for deserving candidates. All stipends and fellowships are expected to be revised.
1. 3-year B.Stat. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of secondary education or equivalent with Mathematics and English, Stipend Rs.500/- per month.
2. 3-year B.Math. (Hons.): Successful completion of 10+2 years of secondary education or equivalent with Mathematics and English. Stipend Rs.500/- per month.
3. 2-year M.Stat. : 3-year Bachelor’s degree with Statistics as full subject. Holders of Statistician’s Diploma/Senior Diploma of ISI are eligible for admission to the second year of the course. Stipend Rs.800/- per month.
4. 2-year M.Math.: 3-year B.Sc. or B.E/B.Tech. with Mathematics as full subject with an exceptionally strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra. Stipend Rs.800/- per month.
5. 2-year Master of Science (M.S.) in Quantitative Economics: 3-year Bachelor’s degree in Economics/Mathematics/Statistics/Physics. Engineering graduates are also eligible. Candidates should have knowledge of Economics and Mathematics at the B.A/B.Sc. pass level. Stipend Rs.800/- per month.
6. 2-year M.Tech. in Computer Science: (i) Master’s degree in Mathematics/Statistics/Physics/Electronic Science/Computer Science/MBA/MCA or a Bachelor’s degree in Engg. Tech. Or equivalent and (ii) knowledge of Mathematics at graduate level. Stipend Rs.2500/- per month.
7. 2-year M.Tech in Quality, Reliability and Operations Research: (i) Master’s degree in Statistics/Mathematics with Probability and Statistics as major subjects or Bachelor’s degree in Engg./Tech. Or equivalent or PG diploma in SQC & OR from Indian Statistical Institute with Physics and Chemistry at Higher Secondary level. Stipend Rs.2500/- per month.
8. Junior Research Fellowships: (a) Statistics: Master’s degree in Statistics. Bachelor’s degree holders with Statistics as the main subject and having outstanding mathematical maturity may also apply (b) Mathematics: Master’s degree in Mathematics. Bachelor’s degree in Statistics. Bachelor’s degree holders with Statistics as the main subject and having outstanding mathematical maturity may also apply. (c) Computer and Communication Sciences: (i) M.E/M.Tech. or equivalent degree in Electronics/Radio Physics/ Computer Science/ Atmospheric Science/ Electrical Engineering/ Microwave Communications or (ii) M.Sc./M.A. or equivalent degree with a good academic record in Physics/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Science/Electronic Sciences or (iii) M.C.A Outstanding candidates with B.E/B.Tech or equivalent degree in the above subjects may also apply. (d) Economics: Master’s degree in Economics/Mathematics/Statistics. Bachelor’s degree holders with Economics as the main subject and having outstanding mathematical maturity may also apply. (e) Demography: Master’s degree in Statistics/Demography/Population Sciences/Population Studies. (f) Physics and Applied Mathematics: M.Sc. in Physics/Mathematics/Statistics. (g) Geology: M.Sc. in Geology/Applied Geology/Earth Science or equivalent degree. (h) Sociology: B.A. (Hons.) and M.A. in Sociology/Social Anthropology/Economics/History with minimum 55% marks. (i) Agriculture: M.Sc. (Ag) in Agronomy (1st class). (j) Plant Chemistry: M.Sc. (1st class) in Biochemistry/Life Science/Botany. (k) Embryology: M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (l) Anthropology & Human Genetics: M.Sc. in Physical Anthropology/Human Genetics/Human Biology.
Fellowship for (a) to (l): Rs.5000/- per month.
A special Fellowship of Rs.12000/- p.m. is also available for outstanding candidates in each of the subjects: (i) Statistics, (ii) Mathematics (iii) Economics and (iv) Computer Science.
9. 2-year Associateship in Documentation an Information Science: (i) Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, or (ii) Master’s degree in any subject with at least two year’s library/documentation/information handling experience or (iii) a four year plus degree, such as B.E. and M.B.B.S. with at least two years library/documentation/information handling experience. Stipend Rs.1000/- per month.

All programmes except 2,3,4 and 9 are offered in kolkata whereas 8(a), 8(b) and 8(d) are offered in Delhi and Bangalore also. 5 is offered this year in Kolkata only. 3 is offered only in Delhi. 2,4 and 9 are offered only in Bangalore. Selection of candidates is based on academic record, written tests and interviews conducted by the Institute. Candidates who have been offered Junior Research Fellowships by the CSIR/NBHM may directly seek an interview at any time of the year for followships listed in 8, but for programmes 6 and 7, ISI written tests and interviews are compulsory even for candidates with valid GATE or CSIR test scores. Due consideration will be given to disabled candidates.
Limited hostel facilities are available. Selection tests for the programmes will be conducted on Sunday, 11 May 2003 at a number of centres in India abroad. Candidates who are due to complete the qualifying examinations before 01 July 2003 may also apply. This date may be relaxed by the Institute in case of candidates with outstanding academic record and performance in the selection tests and interviews. Request for application forms should have mailing address in Capitals. Postal orders money orders and cheques will not be accepted.
